Many are they who will ridicule my words yet I must say them as my quota towards the development of mother Ghana. These words may never leave the 4 corners of this page; nonetheless, the puff of their blast and the wind around may carry them and mould them to suit current trends of development to the intended destination.
National service as a call to national duty by gallant graduates of mother Ghana has in recent times lost its value and intended purposes for which the ambition was hatched and crafted. The crafty minds of the framers of the NATIONAL SERVICE SCHEME had in mind a refined model and methodology of instilling in the youth of this nation a sense of patriotism, nationalism and selfless commitment towards the development of the country. Today the story is different. No wonder the adage goes “the good old days”. Definitely the old days will forever remain good and better than the present. Gone are the times national service persons were treated as national heroes. They were herald by anyone, everyone, and anywhere. This motivated and inspired the young ones to put in their best when at post.
Today, at the blind side of the Guinness book of records and behind the graves of the pioneers of the NATIONAL SERVICE SCHEME is the sorrowful plight of young men and gallant women who have left their homes to other parts of the nation in response to the call of national duty. It is unfortunate to note that a greater number of graduates have been rejected by the institutions they were posted to in a direct response to the inadequate, insufficient, ineffective and inefficient system operated by the national service secretariat of Ghana. The system of posting people without considering their academic background and expertise has resulted in a very low reception from destination offices. Imagine a herbal medicine student posted to ministry of roads and highways. It is not funny that is the real situation on the ground. It is in view of this that the National Service Secretariat must work on improving their posting template and methodology to help churn out the best in the young graduates of this nation.
I feel am listening to a scene in a night of a 1000 laughs show when stakeholders speak of YOUTH DEVELOPMENT. Well, that might be a very good intent but with the current plight of NATIONAL SERVICE PERSONS in this country, I think nothing was done, nothing has been done and it looks like nothing will be done to improve the plight of the YOUTH of this nation. Anyways who is/are the youth? Who are those they are going to create the jobs for? Who are the so-called future leaders of Nkrumah land? It will shock you to know that the answer to these questions zeros down to today’s national service persons. In the midst of the increase in tariffs, utility bills, taxes (direct and indirect) and a ridicule of salary increment (JUST 10%), the little allowance of the national service persons is not forth coming not to talk of an INCREAMENT leaving every one hanging and roasting from the current economic tsunami in the country. Anyways it is just appropriate to tell the president that if the youth must be developed it should start from the pockets of the national service person. The current economic tenets just make it appropriate to increase the “small small” allowance of national service persons of this country.
To the few who have lost their lives trying to locate posted destinations, I say rest in peace and my condolence to the families. In the same pane, to those who have lost personal belongings both physical and emotional, I say you are just victims of the UNCARING, UNSYMPATHETIC, WITCH-HUNTING, DOMANT and UNPATRIOTIC system operated by the NATIONAL SERVICE SECREATARIATE.
Just wait for;
1. The sit down strike of national service persons.
2. The emergence of CONSEP (Concerned National Service Persons)
3. Alliance for Restoring the dignity of National Service Scheme.
DON’T LOOSE FOCUS OF PROPHERT T.B JOSHUAHS GLOBAL YOUTH REVOLUTION.
With this message I know I have given room to crafty minds to twist this message in their favor for propaganda seek and to lay me for crucifixion considering my ideological leanings. But as I always say to my friends: MAKA MAKA. This message will remain clear and unambiguous for ill purposes.
THANK YOU.
